Born June 30, 1959, in Brooklyn, N.Y., D'Onofrio studied at New York City's American Stanislavski Theatre and the Actors Studio before making his stage debut in the mid-1980s, a period that also marked his entry into films. His fame grew in the '90s with parts in such varied fare as JFK, The Player and The Whole Wide World.
D'Onofrio's later big-screen efforts include The Salton Sea (2002) and The Break-Up (2006). He's probably best known, however, for his portrayal of the intuitive Det. Robert Goren on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."
