Anil Kapoor

One of Bollywood's trendsetting leading men, Anil Kapoor was born Dec. 24, 1959, in Chembur, India. He began his film career with bit parts in Hamare Tumhare (1979) and Ek Baar Kaho (1980), and soon graduated to roles in box-office hits such as Shakti (1982), Mashaal (1984) and Andar Baahar (also 1984).

Kapoor made critics sit up and take notice with his strong performance in 1986's Karma, but the movie that launched him to the top was Tezaab (1988). Tackling a potpourri of roles, Kapoor has played everything from a small-town dolt to epic characters in Mr. India (1987) and Ram Lakhan (1989).

The method actor has continued to prove his cinematic prowess with acclaimed appearances in 1942: A Love Story (1993), Virasat (1997) and Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain (1999).
