In the wake of Italy's liberation by Allied forces, a group of strangers -- including a cat burglar (Nando Bruno), a suicidal lover (Andrea Checchi), a prostitute (Valentina Cortese) and an amnesiac (Vittorio De Sica) -- swap stories of wartime hardship. Directed by Marcello Pagliero, this emotional character study was produced in the early years of Italian cinema's neorealist period and features cinematography by Aldo Tonti (Nights of Cabiria).
