Peter Ustinov directs and stars in this adaptation of Herman Melville's tale of justice at sea. Terence Stamp, in an Oscar-nominated role, plays the titular character, a sailor in the British navy who sees only the good in his fellow men. His attitude enrages the ship's cruel master-at-arms (Robert Ryan), who's killed when he provokes Budd into striking him. The captain (Ustinov) must call a court-martial and decide whether Budd deserves to hang.
