The first solo directing effort (in 1977) of New German Cinema wunderkind Margarethe von Trotta, this movie is based on the true story of a social worker who robs a bank to fund a failing day-care center. Christina (Tina Engel) is a militant revolutionary who becomes a fugitive hunted as much for her politics (very pro-feminist) as for her crime. Meanwhile, the young woman Christina held hostage tries to track her down for personal reasons.
