With children to provide for, working-class widower Jesus Sanchez (Anthony Quinn) herds his family into cramped quarters in Mexico City. But his oldest daughter (Lupita Ferrer), an aspiring flight attendant, would rather escape to the friendly skies. Based on the 1961 novel by Oscar Lewis, this Hall Bartlett film features actress Dolores del Rio's final performance and a Grammy Award-winning original score penned by jazz artist Chuck Mangione.
