Physician Matthew Lloyd (Monte Blue) contentedly leads a quiet existence on a tropical island far from the madding crowds in this Oscar-winning 1930 classic. But paradise isn't always what it appears, and before long, Lloyd finds himself appalled by the cruelty displayed by a pearl trader (Robert Anderson) toward the local workers whom he exploits. Soon, the doctor can no longer turn a blind eye to the injustices he witnesses daily.
