John Wayne stars as Capt. Jim Gordon in this fictionalized account of the famed group of American volunteer pilots who trained to fly missions for China against the Japanese before the United States became involved in World War II. The story centers around Gordon's conflict with hotshot Woody (John Carroll), who competes with him for the affections of the same nurse (Anna Lee) and ultimately bears responsibility for another pilot's death.
