With the aim of achieving acts of uninhibited self-expression, a group of well-educated young people purposefully act as if they were mentally retarded in public places. Attempting to reach their own "inner idiots" helps several group members -- especially Karen (Bodil Jorgensen), a newcomer -- clear away the emotional baggage that's been holding them back. But the exercise also unleashes several personal crises.
