Upon returning to Tennessee after serving in the Korean War, backwoods moonshiner Lucas Doolin (Robert Mitchum) finds the family business getting pinched by revenuer Troy Barrett (Gene Barry) and mobsters scheming to take over the supply of hooch in the area. Mitchum also penned the screenplay, and composed and sang the hit title song for this cult classic (in which Mitchum's son Jim makes his film bow as Robert's younger brother).
